Japanese Tin Toy Edsels

Introduction

This catalog is incomplete since new examples still appear from time to time. My goal is to catalog every variety.

Who made what? Many toys lack trademarks. Some display trademarks that differ from those found on their boxes—and boxes may display multiple trademarks. Identical toys can wear different trademarks too. Apparently, manufacturers subcontracted work and provided each other with stampings. Meanwhile, distributors marketed some of these products under their own brand names, resulting in yet more variations. Some trademarks have yet to be attributed.

The rarity scale is based on how many examples of a particular variety were encountered in the course of gathering information. A lower number indicates fewer examples.

The following people were very helpful in compiling this catalog: Bob Babriecki, Tom Baltz, Mike Brogan, Gary Brunsch, Bill Brzoza, Chris Buck, Gordon Chamberlain, Bruce Dean, Elmer Duellman, Carl Durr, Bill Gallagher, Bernie Gentz, Jeff Gibson, Jake Gilmore, Roger Hill, Dave Hooten, Roland Houde, Dennis Huff, Paul Joslen, Peter LaChapelle, Dennis Majors, Steve Miller, Jeannine & Ray Phipps, Bruce Roberts, Marty Scott, Phil Skinner, Ron Smith and Brandon Watson.

Please let me know if you have a tin Edsel that isn't listed. Also, many of the images here are of poor quality. I you can provide better ones, I'd be most grateful.
